| | Masquerade masks were originally designed in Italy to provide a form of diversion to the townfolk during festival months, and stuck on swiftly as, once hidden behind a mask, the gentlemen and women could publicly mix with the commoners throughout event. Old Italian law stipulated both groups were not permitted to mingle, a law in the event that, if violated could result in extreme consequences. Despite the face of such penalty, the noblemen and also clergy would conceal themselves and talk together with the commoners, doing their best to ferret out costly political information from them. The construction of the masquerade mask could be as simple or as detailed as the inventor could visualise. Because beads, ribbon and feathers were ordinarily abundant and vibrant, they were widely used objects in masks. After their inception in Italy, the reputation of the masquerade mask dispersed instantly globally.Types of Venetian MasksThere are five standard Venetian mask types which are produced with leather, paper mache or with the application of gesso and gold leaf. The Bauta mask, with its square jawline, pointed chin without any mouth, disguised the face for complete anonymity. The Bauta is one of the earliest Venetian masks, whose true name is Larva, which means ghost mask. The Bauta mask was made with a jutting beaked front, allowing its wearer to both eat and drink while staying masked-the design also changed the tone of the users voice, adding further to the mystery. The Bauta was always either black or white and was the one mask which was not worn primarily at carnival times; it was actually necessary for women to wear the Bauta mask when enjoying an evening at the theater. The attractive black velvet oval mask, thought to enhance the womanly characteristics, is known as a Moretta or Servetta Mutta, indicating a mute maid servant, possibly since the wearer was unable to speak a result of the masks style. The Moretta mask was created in France but became quite the rage among Venetian women who wore it while visiting the convent, perhaps to help ensure their silence. Although the original Moretta mask was held in place through a button clenched between the users teeth, todays Moretta masks use ties. The Larva or Volto masquerade mask is practically all white, likely worn along with a tri- cornered hat to finish the costume. Much like the Bauta, the shape of the mask permitted the individual to breathe and drink, and thus there was no desire to remove it and reveal ones identity. The Larva masks were made of fine wax cloth, and were fairly easy to carry, making them suitable for eating, dancing-and flirting! The Columbino mask was a half-mask, held up onto the face by a baton or tied with a ribbon. It was a gorgeous actress from the sixteenth century who inspired the Columbino; it had been rumored that she considered herself too attractive to conceal her whole face. Combine masks are usually fashioned with fur, feathers, jewels, gold, silver and crystals. The Medico Della Peste mask (The Plague Doctor). A French Physician by the name of Charles de Lorme was the masks developer who basically designed the mask as a safety measure for treating people with the plague. Medico Della Peste is a complete full-faced mask that features a long, narrow, hollow beak. These masks are typically solid white, with round eye holes covered with crystal discs. The Domino mask is a small rounded mask covering only the eyes and the area between them; Venetian Carnival masks were often called domini since they looked like French priests winter hoods, being black on the exterior and white in the interior. The domino mask is similar to the masquerade mask, but does not have the embellishments and adornment.Popular colors for the masks were often bright oranges, reds, blues and greens, with darker colors traditionally selected for the mens full-face mask. Masks are still widely used today either during a Venetian carnival, an non-traditional wedding, costume balls, or special celebrations like Chinese New Year and Renaissance Fair. Probably the most favorite use is in the celebration of Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Masquerade masks are also commonly used as purely interesting items of artwork. New Years Masquerade balls are also extremely popular celebration-after all, accessorizing with a beautiful masquerade mask to ring in the New Year just seems to go together! More common colors for New Years parties are usually black and white or black and silver, and some people use stick masks for these gatherings as they can be donned periodically. If you are seeking to look quite fashionable and also elegant this New Years, consider the inclusion of a masquerade mask to your costume. | | | | Woolrich Outlet (Visitante)
| | Wolf Neck Woods State Park is more than 200 acres of woods and shoreland near the tip of one of Maine's many midcoast peninsulas. Five miles of trails wind through the forested park and along the rocky shores of Casco Bay and the Harraseeket River. The trails are mostly snowshoe-friendly, but cross-country skiers can find a few to ski on, like the short Old Woods Trail and the unplowed park access road. | | | | ?????????? (Visitante)
